summer linen.

there are a ton of summer fabrics, but linen is such a classic! it’s great for when you wanna change up all the gingham & eyelet textures. it’s also such a cooling fabric and rarely will you find a piece that is 100% linen like this one from @theory___! most pieces are are linen-cotton blend, so it felt super luxe to be wearing this. of course we had to find the best fairy-tale like background for it too! isn’t this place a gem? the v is actually low for my taste but the cap-sleeve design and slight A-line fit make it a #classy piece. and timeless i might add.

the downside to linen is that it wrinkles veryyy easy. think easy and x it by 10. this dress, worth the iron though. and while it does have a liner, it’s not enough which is usually the case with white linen pieces, you have to wear a slip. it’s an elegant piece and doens’t need much jewelry. i didn’t even wear my typical “J” necklace and my photographer thought something was wrong. :D

side ramblings: great things are on the horizon but i can’t share just YET. xx

let’s clear the air on sponsored #SP material here on JDC (jannadoan.COM): isn’t it everyone’s goal to make money doing something they love?! duh. then why is it that influencers/bloggers get wrath for sponsored content? in general bloggers get crap all over the board. yes, there are people who ruin it for others but at the heart of the blogging community there are still genuine bloggers out there. by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) we are to disclose when something is sponsored, paid, or gifted etc… automatically people think, yea he/she just got paid for that so i wouldn’t trust him/her. here’s what i gotta say (you guessed it, bullet point format):

use your intuition about a blogger/influencer. if you think it’s fake… guess what? it’s probably FAKE! i know, i’m a rocket scientist. when you look at something really randomly posted and you raise one eyebrow like “what is this…” that’s your intuition “speaking.” listen to it. but hey let’s cut someee slack on all the toilet paper & tampon ads, maybe this is their full-time job? the bills don’t pay themselves (or so i hear).
because i’m old, i don’t do anything i don’t want to do. even if it’s paid. that may have not been the case when i was first getting started five years ago… but my greys have made me wiser. if i don’t like something i don’t post it. and i say NO to a lot of (really good) opportunities when it doesn’t align. aka: is not a #hellyes.
JDC is NOT my sole source of income. cause ya’ll… i WOULD BE BROKE AF. lol. blogging costs a LOT of money. every post i put out, i actually lose money. and i rarely make any sales based off commission via my links. i’m not a pushy enough saleswoman. just doesn’t seem authentic to me. since this is not my sole income, i don’t need sponsorships to keep this alive. instead, i just work an insane amount of hours at my other job(s). HAHA it all makes sense, i know.
there are still influencers/bloggers out there who carry themselves with integrity. the last time i looked up integrity in the dictionary my name was right next to it. :D xx

in Gal Meets Glam x Nordstrom.

embracing a form of the pantone color of 2018! i'm really late on this bandwagon as i'm not much of a color person. but lilac/lavender... i'm FEELIN' these days! a few words about the Gal Meets Glam x Nordstrom collection.. UM, i love every piece (mainly all dresses which is right up my alley!). back in the hey day Julia Engel was one of the first fashion bloggers i started following because of her classic style -- extremely feminine and ultra girly. she stays very true to her brand so you'll never see her rock anything trendy or remotely street style. i was excited for her new collection with Nordstrom. BUT my wallet... not so much. yikes. prices are pretty steep. however, i felt the quality of the dress was very good, but worth it.. hmm. maybe if i had a money tree?! i would definitely snag if it was on sale so i could feel less bad about it. the collection consists of more dressy pieces but the later styles seem to have casual selections. that said, i would probably dress this piece down with a button down (haha, #nopunintended) chambray shirt tied in the front and some flat sandals. i couldn't resist the color of this dress, along with the texture, dainty buttons, v-back, and the bow details on the sides. it is low for my taste though and found myself hiking this dress up constantly #annoying. but the color is just so pretty!

lastly, the BIGGEST sale of the year that people go nuts about is kicking off this week -- the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. hope i'll have enough time to get a post up on all my picks! stay tuned xx.

how to wear cropped wide leg pants

move over skinny ankle pants.

first and foremost, thank YOU so much for all the comments and messages on my first YOUTUBE video (see previous post). those late nights figuring out how to edit that video really paid off. just know that these things keep me going so THANK YOU! onto how to wear cropped wide leg pants.. not easy (but i GOT CHU) especially when you are 5'2" short like me. for a while it was all about the skinny ankle pants. well, move over skinny pant. there's a new pant in town. i've styled them a little more dressy here and thinking of styling them more casual style with the same pair but in white. here are 5 tips on how to style them:

go for a thicker & stiffer material vs. thin & flowy -- so you can actually see the whole wide leg-ness of the pant if that makes any sense! also, i feel like the thicker material gives a more flattering fit
if you're short go with petite sizing -- Ann Taylor, LOFT, and Banana Republic cater really well to petite sizing
elevate this #literally with some sleek strappy heels, more practical ones like the low block heels shown here
for tops, the cami is my go-to here with a front tuck, crop tops also work if the pants are high waisted enough. i can also see this with a loose button down shirt with the ends tied in the front!
take it 9-5 by adding a blazer or a long cardigan

side ramblings: wow. the past two weeks have been filled with events & good times with my gals! pictures from the #LTKcitytour at Mattie's after the jump. i also checked out local Austin-based @elevecosmetics which is a non-toxic, all-natural, vegan beauty brand. i picked up a liquid lipstick in lady bird lake (LOVE the name!) and this lip treatment my friends rave about, the lip luv. i attended a Nordstrom dinner at @jeffreysjosephine house that featured a custom menu that included items from their EATS MORE pop-in, can't wait to check out the pop-in in real life, here is a list of Nordstrom locations with the EATS MORE pop-in. pretty cool bento boxes! my foodie friend @wanderlustanita invited me to the @academiaaustin tasting -- always a good time with #atxfoodbloggers. ontop of events, WHOA i ate a ton. shout out to @loroaustin (for Austinities it's Uchi x Franklin BBQ) for an amazing meal, maybe it's just me but it's been a while since i've gone to a new place and had a meal i can't stop thinking about?! lastly, summertime is here and i tried @thebakedbear, i'm a sucker for funfetti and birthday cake anything! see y'all next week xx

HELLOOOOOOOO youtube world!

y'all, this is SUCH A FEAT!!! over sunday brunch, my foodie friend @wanderlustanita and i were discussing the youtube world, and what i wanted my first video to be like... she told me, "better done than perfect!" at this point... SO TRUE. i tried my best on this one and for some self taught editing... not bad janna doan (yes, i talk to myself in third person occasionally). i have many things to work on ("UHMMM." yes, i know, i say it a lot, it's very annoying, i'm trying to quit that!) and ideas already brewing in my mind that i can't wait to execute down the line. i am really excited to introduce this new facet of jannadoan.com; think of it as me coming to life from still images?! maybe you should be scared. haha, either way i hope that you will follow me on this (rocky) journey.

this is long overdue and i am proud of this video because it was NOT EASY. diving into the unknown, teaching myself videography, and Adobe premiere editing/formatting (thank goodness for google and youtube tutorials), still images, music, formats etc...! can you believe this is only the beginning?! i’m just scratching the surface. i will say, it is pretty awkward sitting in a room by yourself talking to a camera. just sayin'. i hope to one day look back and see how far i’ve come. it’s all about starting somewhere and making progress, am i right?!

skincare masks are my BFF. they should be yours too! i’m an avid person when it comes to masks. i do them on the REGULAR, the same day each week, guaranteed. also it’s a great way for you to treat/pamper yourself after a long day or even if you have a girls night in! if you find yourself always forgetting to do them, put it on your calendar, set reminders, MAKE TIME until it becomes a habit! remember, good skin doesn’t happen overnight. it takes years of consistency and finding a routine that works for you. so start now with some masks! in all my photos and now video, i do NOT wear ANY FOUNDATION (ain’t nobody got time for that). not bragging (because trust me my skin is nowhere near perfect), but merely stating that this is a huge testament in what consistency, taking care and investing in your skin will do for YOU (and maybe a good ring light too, lol).

FULLY embracing color with this post! (it's a different one isn't it?!)

lately i've been seeing a lot of square necklines or maybe it's just me noticing this and coming to the party late! but i'm really diggin' the look. it's a good alternative from the round, v, and high necks. so while i was looking for a dress (like i need more), or a jumpsuit (ditto), i came across this really bright yellow tank and said YES! it also didn't help that the back is a criss cross & it was #onsale. so i bought it in black too... naturally. this is what happens when i find something i like. such a good staple for summer despite it being a sweater tank. lastly, this outfit was a good opportunity to bust out with these flower earrings from @cassandracollections, i love her jewelry and the fact that she's a local designer. #supportlocal plus, she is such a doll and i love her sense of style!

side ramblings: FINALLY started to edit my video. yes, i know you should definitely give me your best eye roll right now... but hopefully you can cut me some slack because i'm teaching myself how to use adobe premiere. talk about venturing into the unknown. but yep, i'm crazy. i'm all about learning new things and sometimes teaching yourself and diving right in is the best way to do it! fingers crossed that it will be live next week, hope see you then! xx

another IT summer dress!

it's been a full day of yard work and i'm exhausted but it feels so good to wind down with a glass of wine to put this one together #inmyelement. we're about dresses here on JDC. last year one of my favorite summer purchases was this striped cut out dress. so of course when the floral design came out this year, this one somehow made its way to my closet. still unsure how but i ain't mad about it. :D jokes aside, it's on the pricey side. but i'm one of those people.. if i like it that much, i'm gonna buy it. and in multiple colors or prints. this dress, no exception. it has pockets, and most cutouts require you to wear some sort of sticky bra or petals, this one does not! whoo hoo!

side ramblings: I MET MAT KEARNEY! i had a night last week that blew my mind away. my lil blogger sis, @simplyyvan (AKA: concert queen) bought me a VIP ticket for my december bday to meet Mat K! she's the sweetest, ain't she? anyways, got to roll VIP with her and with standing room only at Stubb's, we took advantage of getting there early and were upfront and CENTER! normally i'm not a crowd person so i always hang in the back. BUT WOW, what an experience!!! now i'm all about being upfront with the crowd despite being packed in like sardines. but i danced the night away in my tiny lil space and left with the best feeling. it's a night i'll never forget. i actually don't have many photos or video to show because i spent all of it just soaking it in! as much as i love capturing moments, sometimes it's just better be to be fully present and enjoy the moment. Mat K is my favorite artist for so many reasons. he can sing, he can write, awesome music & beats, but his music got me through some rough times. his lyrics have so much meaning/depth and extremely relatable no matter what you're going through in life. i mean how cool is that to touch the lives of people in that way?! too bad i can't sing and i can't play an instrument to save my life. (hence the fashion blog).

i also attended Austin Fashion Week #AFW this past weekend! i always love being in the midst of fashion especially with others who are wayyyyy more fashionable than myself. photos and a recap to come next week. thanks for stopping by, y'all have a good one now. xx

nyfw part 2

can't get enough of these New York photos!

finally winding down from the weekend/housework and finding some time to regroup and gather my thoughts for this post. i wanted to cover some things i learned in terms of dress for NYFW. as mentioned in my part 1 post, i didn't have much time to pack or plan. AND i actually checked in a luggage for the FIRST TIME EVA. haha. i usually travel pretty light but this time it was actually nice to have that extra space -- this could become a thing now hrmmm..

tips on packing for NYFW //

mix old + new -- this is a great way to brush off some older items in your closet and restyle it! here i used a work pencil skirt to style with this really fun asymmetric top that shows a little skin, oh and it's a designer dupe at a $16 steal! usually when you wear something entirely new, chances are someone else will be wearing it. not that there isn't anything wrong with twinning.
dress for comfort -- while i'm a huge fan of fashion i went with more basic & comfortable items because i knew it was going to be long hours and lots of walking. i even wore a tee-shirt dress. haha, featured in part 3 #comingsoon.
bring comfortable shoes (or bring lots of shoe options!!) -- even bringing tennis shoes or extra shoes with you to change into is a HUGE must. i found that no matter what you wear, after hours your feet will start to hurt! pack chunky heels, platforms, tennis shoes, flats, wedges but no stiletto heels!! PRO TIP: DO NOT. i repeat DO NOT bring new shoes that you have never worn. ever. your feet will thank me.
pick versatile outfits -- meaning pick outfits that go with multiple shoes. in real time, i actually wore this outfit with booties because by day 2 my feet were already killing me!! or dresses that also go with sneakers!
go for statement layering pieces -- this i'll prob try to do this next time. but i think layering pieces are good to add such as a leather jacket, a hat, a statement bag or necklace esp over more basic pieces.
grab a good bag -- i do not mean little box bags like the one i'm wearing here (hello, that was just for pictures lol) but something that actually fits a good amount of stuff because YOU WILL NEED IT! i brought my Gucci Marmont with me and it went with everything and fit just the right amount of items. also, a crossbody is MOST useful. the last thing you want it do is bring a bag that ties up one hand. #handsfreealltheway.
lastly, wear whatever you feel is YOU -- this is the most important tip. style and fashion changes from one person to another. and just because it's fashion week doesn't mean that you need to show up in the most outrageous attention grabbing outfit. be yourself. that's what my mom always says. ;D

day 2 // September 9, 2017
started off the morning all fancy with a lunch tea time at @laduree #pinkiesup. it was such an instagram-worthy spot and so fancy. my girl @fashionablyfitjess was my PIC that day and we spent much of it waiting in lines... bah. after tea time we headed to the @rebeccaminkoff event to find a massive line.. i think we waited in it for a good 45 mins before having to leave for the @bananarepublic public presentation at the flatiron location. as we were dropped off by the taxi, PETA protesters took the stage and it was a big mess. again, jess and i waited in line to see @oliviapalermo but unfortunately, and yet again, the line was so long that by the time we got close-ish to the front, Olivia had already left. WHOMP WHOMP. jess and i decided to drown our sorrows in... @eatlyflatiron!! haha, nothing like good italian food! i walked jess to @grandcentralstation (my first time being there) where she left me to go solo for the rest of the trip. haha, still love you jess!

the evening ended up on a better note; thank goodness. #sodonewithlines. i checked out the @lulus party which was such a huge hit!! they gifted some outfits which were super cute, nibbled on some amazing food and drinks before heading to the @rewardstyle rooftop party. i was really looking forward to this one because a lot of my instagram friends were going and FINALLY I GOT TO MEET THEM IN REAL LIFE! there was a ton of shrieking (which is so not me), lots of hugging and picture taking. it felt amazing to see the personalities come to life. just to finally meet in real life after following & supporting each other for such a long time!! my girls: @pinterestingplans // @interiordesignerella // @courtneerodgers // @toreystreasures // @laminlouboutins // @lifelutzurious

day 3 // September 10, 2017
my friend @stylebeacon had a plus one to a show and of course, i said YES! that morning we hit up @ninatiarinyc and it was a small show but MY FIRST real NEW YORK FASHION SHOW, so thank you michelle! nina has some very pretty designs and i loved all the pattern play. michelle, being the busy boss babe she is had a booked day of shows, i split up with her and finally did some exploring walking all down 5th avenue. i must have walked ... maybe 50 blocks?! haha, i got my bubble tea and dumplings fill. michelle and i finished the night with some sushi & sake!

by the way, what's so cool about being up there during fashion week was running into other TEXAS BLOGGER friends such as @daniaustin // @dressupbuttercup !!
