the neck tie blouse gone casual style

the neck tie blouse gone #casualstyle

i am a fan of classic pieces. the ones that stay in style forever. one of them is the neck tie blouse. it’s a great work staple that pairs well with pencil skirts and pants. however, i choose to take it casual style here with other classic pieces such as the skinny jean, a neutral-ish blazer and a pair of nude patent pumps. i loved the addition of the cognac skinny belt that polished it even more and tied in the bag. this neck tie blouse also comes in petite which is a great option when it comes to long sleeves so that the length will hit you just right! PS — these photos are hot off the press! we shot them on Saturday and i haven’t done photos since March and i will say, it feels good to be back. until next time, xx.

side ramblings: HELLO @glossier! they’re poppin up in ATX and it’s a great way to see all the products in person at 2000 South Congress Ave until 12/08! i may go back and pick up the milky oil but i am a huge fan of the balmdotcom. what a remarkable 3-day weekend! it kicked off with a complimentary blow out and make up application at @janetstpaulstudio. UM. do you know the last time i put makeup on my face (concealer, foundation, bronzer etc..)? my sister’s wedding FIVE years ago lol! it was such a treat, the staff was so friendly. and you know when you go to places where you put a robe on it’s gonna be #badandbougie. we also took it into a girls day out complete with manis and lunch @snhatx — hello crab butter roll!! my foodie PIC and i checked out @intelligentisacoffee in ATX and while i’ve been before, i had the opportunity to try the ATX special this time — the roadrunner (sparkling cold coffee, grapefruit, soda, and agave). sounds pretty interesting huh? i really enjoyed it. think of a refreshing-type-cold-coffee. i learned so much about coffee and have a newfound respect for this coffee shop! lastly, weekends are usually complete with brunch so enter @swedishhillaustin, i highly recommend the deconstructed bagel & lox!

the white linen dress & sponsored content

summer linen.

there are a ton of summer fabrics, but linen is such a classic! it’s great for when you wanna change up all the gingham & eyelet textures. it’s also such a cooling fabric and rarely will you find a piece that is 100% linen like this one from @theory___! most pieces are are linen-cotton blend, so it felt super luxe to be wearing this. of course we had to find the best fairy-tale like background for it too! isn’t this place a gem? the v is actually low for my taste but the cap-sleeve design and slight A-line fit make it a #classy piece. and timeless i might add.

the downside to linen is that it wrinkles veryyy easy. think easy and x it by 10. this dress, worth the iron though. and while it does have a liner, it’s not enough which is usually the case with white linen pieces, you have to wear a slip. it’s an elegant piece and doens’t need much jewelry. i didn’t even wear my typical “J” necklace and my photographer thought something was wrong. :D

let’s clear the air on sponsored #SP material here on JDC (jannadoan.COM): isn’t it everyone’s goal to make money doing something they love?! duh. then why is it that influencers/bloggers get wrath for sponsored content? in general bloggers get crap all over the board. yes, there are people who ruin it for others but at the heart of the blogging community there are still genuine bloggers out there. by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) we are to disclose when something is sponsored, paid, or gifted etc… automatically people think, yea he/she just got paid for that so i wouldn’t trust him/her. here’s what i gotta say (you guessed it, bullet point format):

  • use your intuition about a blogger/influencer. if you think it’s fake… guess what? it’s probably FAKE! i know, i’m a rocket scientist. when you look at something really randomly posted and you raise one eyebrow like “what is this…” that’s your intuition “speaking.” listen to it. but hey let’s cut someee slack on all the toilet paper & tampon ads, maybe this is their full-time job? the bills don’t pay themselves (or so i hear).

  • because i’m old, i don’t do anything i don’t want to do. even if it’s paid. that may have not been the case when i was first getting started five years ago… but my greys have made me wiser. if i don’t like something i don’t post it. and i say NO to a lot of (really good) opportunities when it doesn’t align. aka: is not a #hellyes.

  • JDC is NOT my sole source of income. cause ya’ll… i WOULD BE BROKE AF. lol. blogging costs a LOT of money. every post i put out, i actually lose money. and i rarely make any sales based off commission via my links. i’m not a pushy enough saleswoman. just doesn’t seem authentic to me. since this is not my sole income, i don’t need sponsorships to keep this alive. instead, i just work an insane amount of hours at my other job(s). HAHA it all makes sense, i know.

  • there are still influencers/bloggers out there who carry themselves with integrity. the last time i looked up integrity in the dictionary my name was right next to it. :D xx

yes, my castle is right behind that wall.

the female pantsuit

the pantsuit gone female style.

in previewing and being fitted for the @theory__ fall collection, i wanted something different. something special to remember that moment by (because uhh, i’ve never been fitted for anything!! i feel so bougie even saying that word lol #lucky). in the end i choose to go with a pantsuit from the Theory good wool collection. the Good Wool Collection is made in Italy and of extra fine merino with ZERO itchy-ness. obviously you can only expect the best from Theory and this suit lives up to my expectations. i feel like pantsuits aren’t really worn these days because it comes across very masculine. to avoid this i went with color vs. black. while the blazer is a long line blazer i love how it fits and the exact length that it drops on my short 5’2” self. the pants are supposed to be cropped but of course fit like normal pants because i’m so dang short. no alterations were needed here (ain’t nobody got time for that)! there’s something so powerful about rockin’ a male suit. i took this janna-style with a satin cami with lace trim (a neck tie blouse will also do) and added three layered necklaces to make this even more chic and classy. lastly, always top off any pantsuit with a pair of pumps to elevate the entire look.

side ramblings: we’re basically in the last month of 2018, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! i can’t wait to write a little reflections post on this year. i have already taken advantage with having my @kingofchristmas tree up (actually since October but who cares?!). it’s the best time of the year as there is so much to be thankful for and so much to look forward to. i’m EXCITED — lights, xmas music, hot cocoa, family gatherings… oh my and how can i forget #BIRTHDAYMONTH! you know i’m all about treating yourself right, especially as you get older. i’m already in present wrapping mode and almost done christmas shopping so we should drink to that. AH! one of my friends i met on IG asked me to be her bridesmaid @wanderlustanita! ive only known Anita for two years now and can’t believe she even asked me, what an honor! it reminded me of the friendships i’ve made along this journey and so thankful for these gals who keep me sane. and on another note, the last few weeks have been a whirlwind and so many great things happening in my life right now, i’m all about those pinch me moments! until next time xx.

the theory silk combo midi dress

the mixed media midi = MMM

oh you know, just 7:30AM and i’m hanging out on rooftops with @madelineharperphoto for these pictures. just another day in life of JD. haha. we had to much fun this morning though. after struggling to find a background for this dress and walking with the ever so patient Madeline to find another spot, i looked up and randomly said, hmm let’s check out the rooftop! DINGx3! best idea ever. funny how it always works out right?! as a result i’m spamming you with photos of myself because we had a blast shooting this one! #sorrynotsorry

one way to have fun with fashion is to play with texture. if you’re not sure how the easiest way is to purchase a one piece (dress, or jumpsuit/romper) that is made of two different materials. honestly, i’ve always been skeptical of these. i think it was seeing cheap jersey material mixed with chiffon/polyester and i was like NOPE. but here, it is done so right it’s almost wrong. when i was shopping at @theory__ this dress didn’t really catch my eye, but it was the sales associate who was wearing it that made me want to try it on! advertising at its finest y’all. glad i did because i am OBSESSED. the length (even on short 5’2” me), the slit, the silk (again, don’t get me started on the Theory silk) you can see how it flows in the photos #effortlessly. the top part is a ribbed material and it hugs perfectly. anyways, i took the opportunity to shoot some leg action #angelinajoliewannabe.

side ramblings: this past week was a long one but noteables include: a low-key girls night in (#GNI?), a haircut by my gal @elizabeth.jane.hair, AND the @theory__ fitting for their fall collection focusing on cashmere and wool. i’ve never been to a fitting before (cue in all the excitement i tried to contain all week long, i still can’t believe this is my life). IT WAS SO MUCH FUN and of course i had the hardest time deciding on something. if you saw my stories i picked something way different than my usual style! can’t wait to share. lastly, FALL is here officially. but not really, it’s SLIGHTLY dropped in temperature but come on i wanna bring out all my outerwear ASAP, put out all my pumpkins (by that i mean all 8 of them… they’re out already who am i kidding?! haha), put up my Christmas tree (i know, i’m getting crazy but it’s my first Christmas tree in my own home!!). ah, FALL, I LOVE THEE.

jdc turns four

nothing worthwile is ever easy.

in theory, i couldn't think of a better way than celebrating FOUR years of jannadoan dot com (JDC) with @theory__! #nopunintended. being able to work with Theory was one of the handful of highlights/life's little victories lately. til this day, i am still pinching myself with thoughts of "is this real life right now?" a brand so selective, streamlined, minimal, SO luxe and classy wanted to work with me?! SAY WHAT? i thought the email was addressed to the wrong person for a second. #grateful. what a year it has been. lots of breaks were taken, but in the end here i am still chugging/typing/snapping away four years // 1,460 days later. (insert huge grin). my reflections, janna-style after the jump.

it's ironic that i call myself a fashion blogger because i don't keep up with trends that much. as a woman in her 30s i realize that not all trends are for me. i dabble in some but most trends have me scratching my head. i know i'm not the only one. the fanny pack has always been questionable to me. actually, very questionable unless it's the 70s and you're a dad/mom going to a theme park, but even then! enter a belt bag. now this i can get on board with but it's NOT functional. it's sleek, minimal, and zero space for anything because the point is, you don't want it to look chunky. you want it to be there without actually being there. ya feel me?! i have nothing in it in the photos below haha (i hope someone is reading this).

instead of buying a belt bag, i got creative and made my own with items i already had. it's actually a crossbody bag (see it styled here), i removed the leather strap and used a minaudiere gold chain to strap it onto me. VOILA. not gonna lie, it was a genius moment i'm pretty proud of. paired with a silk jogger style jumpsuit? (#protip: if you have #shortgirlproblems like me, avoid hemming pant jumpsuits with a jogger style one that cuffs at the bottom). this is as trendy as it is gonna get here on JDC. lastly, the silk of Theory is unlike any other silk i've touched. it's so soft, smooth, comfy that i actually want to sleep in it. i guess it would be wrong to sleep a $300+ jumpsuit. there has to be a market for Theory pjs.

kudos to all the other women doing the same out there. it. ain't. easy. i mean it looks easy and glamorous but it's the exact opposite. and i don't even have a child! so kudos to blogger moms out there holding it down!! it takes a few things i have to highlight below in bullet format, because... you know how i roll.

  1. confidence -- the ability to do your THANG no matter what. as a shy person by nature, i will shoot photos in the middle of places with high traffic if i have to. it takes some dang confidence to have other people either stare, laugh, honk, (insert other verbs) at you. #awkward. not everyone can do it so i give myself some major credit here. also, the ability to attend events when you might not know anyone. that takes guts, i don't care what anyone says. one of my mottos is "suit up and show up." figuratively and literally.

  2. courage -- in a world where everyone is trying to keep up with the latest and be the greatest, it's hard not to lose sight of YOU and your purpose. by this i don't necessarily mean have the courage to be different but have the courage to be you. seems pretty DUH, but in 2018, it must be said.

  3. persistence -- the ability to push through and strive to do your best; even when everything seems to be going wrong/backwards or when people bring you down. it's like walking through mud (or a better analogy is pushing a lawn mower through wet grass). it's not fun, is futile, and makes you question what the heck you're doing. but if you have the drive & passion, put those blinders on (or really oversized sunglasses) and keep going my friend. #cantstopwontstop, ya know?!

  4. planning -- i never thought i would need to consider what side a building faces and where the sun will be at a certain time on it. also planning way in advance i.e., shooting fall stuff in 100F weather, or planning IG posts/blog posts, content creation. the planning never stops.

  5. appreciation -- of the five, this will get you the farthest. defined as: the recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something. expressing appreciation and gratitude to those who helped me get to where i am today and believed in me enough to give me an opportunity is something i never lose sight of. and besides, it's just really who i am.

through life, i've been told that it is important to always take a step back and reflect. it's hard to find the time these days especially with the 2018-pace-of-life. but when you do, you'll realize HOW far you've come, what you've accomplished, what you've learned along the way. bottom line: it fills you with #GRATITUDE. we can always use more of that, am i right?! i'm a firm believer that a little gratitude leads to greatness. to be honest, the past year has not been the most fruitful for my site on all accounts -- amounts made on commission, traffic, social media, brand collaborations etc... everything has actually declined and gone downhill. my followers have remained stagnant, i've made less in commissions, constantly rejected by brands, and my traffic is at an all time low. however, it would be remiss if i didn't acknowledge the things that i did accomplish: this past year i signed and negotiated my first PAID sponsorships! WAH HOO! i mean only took this long! haha. i created my first invoice. OH, how can i forget?! I FILMED and EDITED MY FIRST YOUTUBE video (i know... i only uploaded ONE and i'm really behind on others) but that's a huge accomplishment and i'm sticking to it. cheers y'all! xx
